Well done to Elliot, Connor, Johanna, Joanne and Keertana, who completed their Gold DofE Qualifying Expedition in the Peak District last week. Gold DofE was not offered at the girl’s school, but they were determined to complete the Gold Award. They formed their own group of 5 and made plans for the expedition section. They all worked incredibly hard to sort out all of the logistics for the expedition; that was before the walking even began!
This team were a fine example of “train hard, fight easy”. They put in a lot of time to developing their weaknesses to become a stronger team. In doing so, they all commented that they qualifying expedition felt easier than their practice expedition. It certainly wasn’t, as they walked further and higher, but it felt easier due to all of the preparation that they had done.
“Bleaklow” lived up to it’s name by being bleak but the group were not phased by this, being able to navigate accurately on the paths in the thick mist.
Doing an expedition in October can be tough. However, if you are well prepared, then it can be a great time to walk, with lovely autumnal colours, ideal walking temperatures and time to get plenty of sleep with long dark nights in the tent!
Well done to everyone that completed their expeditions in 2016.
