It’s always a delight to work with groups in the Peak District, especially when the weather is as good as it was last week. The weather wasn’t ideal for practicing navigating in the mist, or learning how to pack up camp in the wet, but it did make for very pleasant walking conditions!

This group of 5 had not all walked together before, some only having recently met. However, not only did they get along well, but they were able to work together on the hill and at the campsites. They developed strategies for managing the different natural walking paces within the group. Singing proved to be a good form of motivation for dealing with the steep hills; they could often be heard before they were seen!

It’s always great to see groups take the initiative to complete Gold DofE themselves, when it’s not provided for them at school. This was no exception.  I look forward to seeing them again for their qualifying expedition in October.
