Well done to all 21 participants from Albyn and St Margaret’s Schools who completed their Gold DofE Expedition in Chamonix this week. Between the 4 groups they travelled on various routes from Chamonix to Courmayeur, taking in sections of the Tour du Mont Blanc. They walked in 3 countries, passed over 7 mountain passes, and ate quite a lot of ice cream at the finish!
Each group had picked a challenging route, which meant setting off with some uncertainty as to how things would pan out. Everyone dug deep when the going got tough. Team strategies were developed to cope with the long climbs that they had chosen to undertake. As a result each group was rewarded with not only completing their Gold DofE, but seeing a new breath-taking view open up in front on them with each col that they passed.
We couldn’t have planned this if we had tried, but 2 of the groups got a lovely surprise on the last day. By pure chance, they happened to bump into their instructor, Alex, from the practice expedition. This was on the final col of the final day, so Alex could really see how far they had come since the practice expedition.
There are a few photos from the expedition here.
Congratulations to everyone on completing their expedition this week and I look forward to seeing the presentations in October. Thank you to Jo and Jen who worked with the groups this week.
