Well done to the 5 boys from Tonbridge on completing their Gold DofE in Chamonix over the last 4 days. For those who have been in the Alps during the past week, you’ll appreciate the conditions that they faced. The temperature rarely rose above 10 degrees and there were only small intervals in which is didn’t rain. The views were few and far between. They walked in snow across the Grand Col Ferret, and only when they descended into Italy on the final day did they pop out into the sunshine.
Luckily, and admiringly, the group are staying out to continue on the second half of the Tour du Mont Blanc, in order to complete the full circuit. The forecast is due to return to more summer like conditions so they should enjoy some sunshine and views of Mont Blanc before they leave.
Rupert must also get a mention. The 6th member of the team had to pull out at very short notice, after having contributed to the planning. The team carried a picture of Rupert with them all the way so that he could get a flavour of the expedition!
It was great to work with such determined participants, never looking phased by the weather. I am in no doubt that they will reap the rewards of having put so much effort into their Gold DofE Expedition.
