For this expedition we had a terrible forecast, with showers on Tuesday, heavy continuous rain on Wednesday, heavy showers on Thursday and showers on Friday. But what actually materialised was quite different. No rain on Tuesday or Friday, dry on Wednesday till we were back at the tents and “mizzle“ on Thursday. However there had been enough rain on Wednesday night to mean that river crossings became challenge.
The picture above shows a group descending “Antler Ridge” as we have affectionately named it due to finding 6 antlers here in 2012. It lived up to it’s name with groups being delighted to find 2 this year.
We just missed Beeline Britain coming through the glen but we hid some sweets for them and you can see a video of it here. Beeline Britain are undertaking a unique challenging of travelling from Lands End to John O’Groats in a straight-line which involves the use of sea kayaks, road bikes and mountain bikes. This is even more challenging for Nick who lost both his legs above the knee whilst serving in Afghanistan in 2009. If we though crossing the Geldie was tough with water up to our thighs, spare a moment to think how it was for him.
Well done to all the participants from Albyn and St Margaret’s Schools and we look forward to seeing you on the qualifying expedition, whether it be in France or Scotland.
