Anastasia contacted me back in the winter saying that her group wanted to come to the Alps to do their DofE. Even at that stage I got a sense of her group’s independence, determination and spirit of adventure.
Yesterday my alarm was set for 0630 as that is the time the group had told me they would leave. I was awoken by the group at 0600 saying “we are ready early, can we leave now?”. It’s not often that happens! They knew that there were storms forecast and they were determined to get over the col and down into Italy ahead of the rain; and they did manage to do that, arriving at exactly the same time as the rain.
This expedition will leave them with a life time of memories; stunning views of Mont Blanc and the surrounding glaciers and beautiful campsites in the heart of the mountains. Not forgetting the cowbells that rang continually throughout the 2nd night…
They have planned this expedition themselves, from start to finish, continually working together in order to succeed. Myself and the group met many other hikers along the trail who were impressed by the groups capabilities. They are a real credit to themselves and should be very proud of having completed their DofE expedition in this way. Congratulations to Briony, Anastastia, Trixie, Lauren, Gabriella and Violet on what you have achieved this week.
