Pupils from Albyn School have just returned home after completing their Gold Qualifying Expedition for The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award in and around Chamonix. This is something the school have wanted to do for a number of years, so everyone has returned home delighted that it has been a success.
At the beginning of the expedition the group were given a presentation on some of the things that they may encounter when doing a DofE expedition in The Alps. As the week progressed it was clear that they were experiencing most of these things; hot temperatures, thunderstorms, ladders, cables, snow patches and not forgetting the marmots and ibex.
Their routes took them into Switzerland, up to the Emosson Dam and across the magnificent Lac Blanc.
At the end of the expedition they all agreed that whilst the expedition, at times, had been extremely challenging, it had also been a trip of a life time and incredibly rewarding. I look forward to seeing their presentations in October. Congratulations to everyone involved; you worked hard throughout the week and dug deep when you need too.
